HydraTag water tracker privacy: your data stays on your phone
The current free HydraTag app keeps your water history on your phone. There is no account, no cloud sync and no analytics. This guide summarises the current app in plain language; the HydraTag app privacy policy is the authoritative statement and carries the effective date.
What is stored on your phone
- The water amounts and times you log, and the sticker identifier when a drink came from a tap.
- Your daily goal, display unit, quick-add amounts and the optional name you entered.
- Reminder, Daily Drop and progress-notification choices, plus local scheduling records.
- Appearance and silhouette preferences.
- Pending tap records, kept until the drink can be saved.
These live in the app's local storage and are used to show progress and history, record drinks and schedule notifications.
What the app does not do
- No account and no cloud synchronisation.
- No upload of your water history to a HydraTag server.
- No analytics events.
- No access to location, contacts, microphone or camera.
- No push token or remote push service; notifications are scheduled locally.
- Android's automatic app backup is turned off for HydraTag, and the app does not offer its own backup or export in the current version.
Permissions it asks for
| Permission | Used for | If you decline |
|---|---|---|
| NFC | Reading and writing the HydraTag link on your sticker | Log by hand; the app works without a sticker |
| Notifications | Water reminders, the Daily Drop fact and the Android progress bar | Logging and history work normally; no reminders appear until you allow them in phone settings. See water reminders |
NFC stickers and links
A set-up sticker holds a small HydraTag web link containing a sticker identifier and the amount to log. It does not contain your name or history. Any NFC reader can read that link, so it should never hold secrets. If a phone opens the link in a browser instead of the app, the website and its hosting providers receive an ordinary web request, including the URL and network details such as the IP address; the website privacy policy applies to that. How the link is written and read is in NFC sticker logging.
Daily Drop sources
Daily Drop facts are bundled with the app. If you open a fact's source link, your browser connects to that external website under its own privacy practices. Opening a source does not send your history or name.
Delete your data
- Settings, Clear today's drinks: removes today's saved drinks.
- Settings, Delete all water history: removes every drink and pending sticker logs; your preferences stay.
- Uninstalling the app removes its local data.
Both in-app actions ask for confirmation and cannot be undone; see reviewing your history before you delete.
Support messages and the website
If you email support@hydra-tag.com, what you send is handled to answer you, outside the app's storage. Browsing this website and any future purchase are covered by the website privacy policy, not the app policy.
What changes with HydraTag Pro
The forthcoming Pro upgrade will need account verification to confirm your purchase before NFC features unlock, and a shipping address to deliver the included sticker. The free app will still need no account and will keep your history on the phone. In the forthcoming release, NFC tap logging and sticker setup, reading and writing will require an active HydraTag Pro upgrade; manual logging, quick add, reminders, history and unit choice stay free. Export and backup are not available in the current version and are not promised here.
This page describes the current free app. When app data practices change with the Pro release, the app privacy policy will be updated with a new effective date before that version ships.
